Stage 2 is about taking the standard IS38 turbo as far as it will go. To get there you need to fix the two things holding it back: heat and exhaust flow.
With an uprated front mount intercooler, a 3 inch sports cat or decat downpipe and an R600 intake fitted, a custom Stage 2 file will put the Golf R at 385 to 410bhp and up to 430ft/lb. That is the ceiling of the stock turbo and the car is properly quick at that point.
The intercooler matters more than people expect. The standard unit heat soaks fast on a warm day or during back to back runs, and you lose power and consistency with it. The downpipe frees the turbo up to spool and hold boost at the top end.
Required hardware
Racingline R600 intake or R600 bundle, uprated front mount intercooler (Airtec or Racingline), 3 inch sports cat or decat downpipe, then the custom Stage 2 file.
What's included
Fully custom file mapped around your exact hardware combination.
Every dyno booking gets before and after power runs and a printout.
Things to know
99 RON fuel is required. A decat will fail an MOT and is sold for off road use only, so go sports cat if the car stays on the road. The power difference is marginal.
Later MK7.5 cars have a GPF, and exhaust fitment differs between GPF and non GPF, so check before you order parts.
Manual gearbox owners: a clutch upgrade is not optional at Stage 2. The standard clutch won't hold this torque.
Fitment
MK7 and MK7.5 Golf R, 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen 3, GPF and non GPF. Manual, DQ250 and DQ381 DSG.
Two ways to get it done
Book in at our Coventry workshop for a full custom dyno tune on our 4WD rolling road, or take the Flash At Home option and we'll send you a WP-Flasher device to load the file yourself wherever you are.
If you have datalogging equipment, we can check the file and make adjustments from your logs.
