The MK7 Fiesta ST180 is one of the most rewarding cars to tune. Ford's 1.6 EcoBoost engine responds incredibly well to modifications, and with the right parts and a proper custom tune, you can transform the driving experience at every level.

We've tuned hundreds of Fiesta ST180s on our in-house 4WD DynoDynamics rolling road here in Coventry, from completely standard cars right through to full Stage 3 hybrid turbo builds.

This guide walks you through what each stage involves, the power you can realistically expect, what parts we recommend, and the things you need to watch out for along the way.

All power figures in this guide are based on real results from our own dyno — not manufacturer claims.

Stock Where you're starting from

197–200hp
Power

Torque

Despite the name, the Fiesta ST180 actually makes more than 180hp from the factory. On our dyno, we consistently see completely standard cars producing 197–200hp thanks to an overboost feature which increases the HP for around 15 seconds.

It's a brilliant car in standard form, but there's a lot left on the table.

Stage 1 — Remap Only The best bang-for-buck mod

215–230hp
Power

230–250ft/lb
Torque

A Stage 1 remap is the best bang-for-buck modification you can do to any modern turbocharged car, and the Fiesta ST180 is no exception. With zero hardware changes, a custom remap on our rolling road will take you from around 200hp to 215–230hp. A genuine, noticeable improvement in pull and responsiveness that completely changes how the car feels to drive.

Our Stage 1 calibration is designed for 99 RON fuel, with a smooth and progressive power delivery that retains the factory-like drivability.

It's the perfect starting point, and many owners are genuinely surprised at how much of a difference a remap alone makes.

What You Need
  • A healthy, well-maintained car (fresh plugs, clean oil, no fault codes)
  • A custom dyno tune at our workshop

Stage 1+ — Remap + Intake A bit more to work with

225–235hp
Power

240–250ft/lb
Torque

Adding a performance intake kit to a Stage 1 remap gives the turbo a bit more to work with. It's not a massive power increase over a Stage 1 remap alone, but you'll typically pick up an extra 5–10hp, and it makes a noticeable difference to throttle response.

You also get a much more satisfying induction sound and a louder dump valve noise on lift-off, which is a big part of the appeal for a lot of owners.

What You Need
  • Performance intake kit
  • Custom remap to suit

Stage 2 — The Full Bolt-On Package The sweet spot for most owners

235–250hp
Power

270–280ft/lb
Torque

This is where things get really exciting. Stage 2 is the sweet spot for most Fiesta ST180 owners — it maxes out the stock turbo's potential with bolt-on hardware modifications and a custom tune to match.

The combination of a front-mount intercooler, 3" turbo-back exhaust, and intake kit gives the engine everything it needs to breathe properly, and the results on the dyno speak for themselves.

At Stage 2, the car feels genuinely fast. The torque increase is arguably more impressive than the headline power figure — 270–280ft/lb gives the ST180 a real shove in the back that stock owners simply won't believe from the same car.

⚠️
Decat vs Sports Cat: A decat pipe will cause an MOT failure and is sold for off-road / motorsport use only. If you want to stay road-legal, go with the sports cat option — you'll still see excellent results on the dyno, and you won't have any issues come MOT time.

Stage 3 — Hybrid Turbo Where things get serious

300–330hp
Power

280–310ft/lb
Torque

Stage 3 is where the stock turbo comes off and things get serious. The TurboTechnics S280 is, in our opinion, the best all-round hybrid turbo upgrade for the Fiesta ST180. It's a complete cast unit — brand new, no exchange required — and it transforms the car into something genuinely rapid.

With the Stage 2 hardware (intercooler, exhaust, intake) and the S280 turbo, you can expect around 300–310hp on stock injectors.

The S280 does push the stock injectors close to their limit though, so we advise fitting a set of uprated injectors to give extra headroom for tuning.

With uprated injectors on a strong engine, we've seen 310–330hp — serious numbers from a small hatchback.

For cars being pushed to the upper end of Stage 3, we'd also recommend upgrading from the Stage 2 intercooler to the Airtec Stage 3 unit. The Stage 2 works perfectly fine, but the Stage 3 will give you the absolute best intake temperatures when you're making this kind of power.

Full Stage 3 Spec
  • All Stage 2 hardware (exhaust, intercooler, intake)
  • Hybrid turbo upgrade
  • Custom Stage 3 dyno tune
  • Uprated injectors (recommended)
  • Stage 3 intercooler (recommended for maximum performance)

Clutch slip: The stock clutch on the Fiesta ST180 is the weak link at Stage 3 power levels. It can start to slip, especially on higher-mileage cars where the clutch has already seen some wear. If you're planning a Stage 3 build, budget for a clutch upgrade — it's far better to do it proactively than to have the clutch give up a week after your remap.

Supporting Modifications Don't forget the chassis

More power is only half the equation. The Fiesta ST180 has great handling from the factory, but once you start adding serious power it makes sense to invest in the chassis too.

Coilovers — A set of BC Racing coilovers will transform the way the car handles. Adjustable ride height and damping means you can set the car up exactly how you want it, whether that's for fast road, track days, or a mix of both. The improvement in body control and turn-in over the standard suspension is night and day.

Lower Control Arms — The OEM lower control arms are a known weak point. We stock SuperPro lower control arm assemblies with upgraded bushes and ball joints — available in standard alignment or with +0.5 degrees of castor increase for improved turn-in and stability.

Brakes — If you're doing regular track days or spirited driving at Stage 2+, uprated brake pads are a worthwhile investment. The standard discs are actually decent, but the pads will fade under sustained hard use.

Complete the Look Styling upgrades

Once the performance is sorted, it's worth finishing the car off with some styling upgrades to match. We stock a full range of splitters, side skirts, spoiler extensions, and diffusers for the Fiesta ST180 — all designed to give the car a more aggressive look without going over the top.
