WP Stage 1 — 390–400bhp / up to 530Nm

The MK8 Golf R is seriously underrated from the factory. VW quotes 320PS but these cars consistently dyno at 340–345bhp — and there's a huge amount more locked away in the Simos 19 ECU. With a full recalibration of boost pressure, ignition timing, fuelling and wastegate control, we extract 390–400bhp and up to 530Nm from the standard Continental turbocharger. That's approximately 80bhp over what VW claim — on a completely standard car with the OPF in place.

The Gen 4 EA888 responds to a Stage 1 remap like nothing before it. The Continental turbo fitted to the Golf R has significantly more headroom than the IHI IS38 in the MK7 — it's a bigger, more capable unit with an electronic wastegate actuator that gives us extremely precise boost control. The result is a car that pulls harder from lower down and keeps pulling right through the rev range.

We strongly recommend pairing this with our DSG calibration without this we will have. to cap boost levels to protect the clutches and the TCU tune sharpens shifts, optimises shift points and makes the car feel far more responsive.
