Its main advantages over the AIRTEC Stage 2 are its handmade construction, larger pipework and visual impact. It is the ideal option for an owner who wants the intake to become one of the main features of the engine bay.

The larger 3.5-inch pipework can also produce slightly more resonance and induction noise, although the difference is not dramatic.

AIRTEC Stage 3+ Focus RS induction kit

The AIRTEC Stage 3+ induction kit is AIRTEC’s larger premium system.

It uses 90 mm, or approximately 3.5-inch, pipework together with a large filter and replacement engine cover. The pipework crosses the top of the engine, creating a much more obvious visual change than the Stage 2 intake.

WP-R versus AIRTEC Stage 3+

There is very little meaningful difference in performance or sound between the WP-R and AIRTEC Stage 3+ systems.

Which intake is best for Stage 3?

All three complete intake systems can also be used on a Stage 3 Focus RS.

The AIRTEC Stage 3+ is not automatically required simply because the car is described as Stage 3. Similarly, the AIRTEC Stage 2 does not suddenly become unsuitable when a larger turbo or higher-output setup is fitted.

In our experience, the intercooler becomes the limiting factor from rising intake temperatures before the open air filter does.

This means we would not avoid one of these induction kits simply because it uses an open-cone filter. A correctly installed intake and an effective intercooler are both parts of the complete airflow and cooling system.

How often should the air filter be cleaned?

We recommend inspecting and cleaning the induction-kit air filter every year.

For the filters used with these systems, light cleaning with an airline can remove loose dirt and debris. Avoid damaging the filter material with excessive pressure and always follow any specific maintenance instructions supplied by the filter manufacturer.

Cars driven in dusty or dirty environments may require more frequent inspection.
