Which is the best induction kit for the Focus ST225?
For customers looking for the best complete intake setup, we generally recommend the Wisbech Engineering V3 or V4 induction kits.
Both are strong options for tuned ST225s, with the most suitable choice depending on the specification of the car, power target and budget.
For a typical Stage 2 Focus ST225, the AIRTEC Group A induction kit is also more than capable. It provides a substantial improvement over the standard intake system without requiring an unnecessarily large setup for the power level.
Do I need a remap after fitting an induction kit?
A remap is not required simply because an induction kit has been fitted. The car can be driven safely with the new intake on its existing software.
However, the greatest performance benefit will usually be achieved on a tuned car where the calibration can take full advantage of the improved airflow.
How much power does an induction kit add?
On a tuned Focus ST225, a suitable induction kit will typically contribute approximately 10–20 bhp compared with the restrictive standard intake system.
The exact result will depend on the intake fitted, the vehicle’s existing modifications, turbocharger, exhaust system, intercooler and ECU calibration. An induction kit should therefore be viewed as part of the complete tuning package rather than a guaranteed standalone power increase.
Open-cone versus enclosed induction kits
Open-cone induction kits produce considerably more induction and turbocharger noise. You will generally hear more turbo spool, airflow and recirculation-valve sound than with the standard airbox or a more enclosed intake system.
This makes an open-cone setup a popular option for drivers who want more character and sound from the five-cylinder engine. An enclosed system may be preferable for someone wanting a more restrained setup while still improving airflow.
Do I need an ECU holder?
Yes, when completely removing the standard Focus ST225 airbox.
The engine ECU is housed within the original airbox assembly. Once the standard airbox is replaced with an aftermarket induction kit, the ECU needs to be relocated and mounted securely elsewhere in the engine bay.
You will therefore also need a compatible ECU holder, such as the AIRTEC Motorsport Focus ST225 ECU holder, unless the chosen induction kit already includes a suitable mounting solution.
Our recommendation
For a standard or mildly modified road car, choose a well-designed intake that provides improved airflow without being unnecessarily large for the setup.
For a Stage 2 car, the AIRTEC Group A kit is a proven and capable choice.
For more extensively modified or higher-power builds, we generally recommend considering the Wisbech Engineering V3 or V4 systems.
