Best styling upgrades for the Corsa D VXR
The Corsa D VXR already has a much more aggressive factory body kit than a standard Corsa, so relatively simple exterior additions can make a noticeable difference without completely changing the character of the car.

Best first styling modification
The Maxton Design Corsa D VXR spoiler extension is one of the easiest first modifications.
It fits onto the existing factory spoiler and gives the rear of the car a slightly longer and more aggressive profile without requiring drilling.
The fitting process is straightforward:
- Thoroughly clean the existing spoiler.
- Remove any wax, polish or contamination.
- Degrease the bonding surface.
- Test-fit and align the spoiler extension.
- Bond it into position using the supplied 3M tape.
- Apply firm, even pressure once correctly aligned.
Surface preparation is important. Adhesive will not bond properly to a dirty, waxed or greasy surface.
Standard front splitter or Nürburgring-style splitter?
There are two main Maxton front-splitter styles available for the Corsa D VXR.
Standard VXR-style front splitter
The Maxton Design Corsa D VXR front splitter gives the standard VXR bumper a lower and more aggressive appearance.
This is the more straightforward choice if you simply want to extend the lower edge of the original bumper.
Nürburgring-style front splitter
The Maxton Design Nürburgring-style front splitter mimics the more aggressive splitter appearance associated with the Nürburgring Edition.
Importantly, you do not need to own a Nürburgring Edition to fit it.
The Nürburgring-style splitter fits the standard Corsa D VXR / OPC front bumper, so it can be used simply as a styling choice on a normal VXR.
Which front splitter is better?
Neither is meaningfully better from a performance point of view.
The decision is primarily visual.
Choose the standard splitter if:
- You want a simple extension to the original VXR bumper.
- You prefer a slightly more conventional appearance.
Choose the Nürburgring-style splitter if:
- You prefer the Nürburgring-inspired appearance.
- You want the front of a standard VXR to look closer to the Nürburgring Edition.
We would choose whichever design you personally prefer rather than selecting one based on claimed aerodynamic performance.
Do Corsa D VXR front splitters require drilling?
Yes.
The front splitter needs to be properly mechanically secured to the underside of the bumper.
We recommend drilling and using suitable nuts and bolts in accordance with the supplied fitting instructions.
A front splitter is subjected to significant airflow and aerodynamic load at motorway speeds, so it is important that it is fixed correctly.
We would not rely on double-sided tape or adhesive alone.
Why is correct splitter fitting important?
An incorrectly secured front splitter can work loose at speed.
This can result in:
- Damage to the splitter
- Damage to the front bumper
- The splitter detaching from the vehicle
- A potential hazard to other road users
For this reason, drilling a few correctly positioned mounting holes is preferable to trying to preserve the bumper by using inadequate fixings.
Maxton Design side skirt extensions
The Maxton Design Corsa D VXR side skirt extensions sit beneath the original VXR side skirts.
They visually lower the side profile of the car and work particularly well when paired with a gloss-black front splitter.
The side skirts fit both:
- Standard Corsa D VXR models
- Nürburgring Edition models
- Pre-facelift cars
- Facelift cars
Do the side skirts need drilling?
Yes.
The side skirt extensions should be mechanically secured rather than simply bonded into position.
Long exterior components experience considerable force from airflow at speed, so relying purely on adhesive is not something we recommend.
During fitting:
- Test-fit each side first.
- Make sure both extensions sit evenly.
- Mark fixing locations carefully.
- Use sufficient mechanical fixings along the length.
- Follow the supplied fitting instructions.
Corsa D VXR rear side splitters
The Maxton Design rear side splitters fit to the lower outer edges of the rear bumper.
They are relatively subtle when fitted alone, but they work particularly well as part of a complete styling package alongside:
- Front splitter
- Side skirt extensions
- Spoiler extension
The matching gloss-black finish creates a consistent lower styling line around the vehicle.
Do the rear side splitters require drilling?
Yes.
The rear side splitters should be drilled and mechanically fixed using the appropriate mounting hardware.
As with the front splitter and side skirts, we would not rely on adhesive alone for a component exposed to airflow at motorway speeds.
Maxton Design bonnet add-on
The Maxton Design Corsa D VXR bonnet add-on is another relatively simple styling modification.
It works in a similar way to the spoiler extension, sitting over the existing bodywork to change the shape and appearance of the leading edge.
Correct surface preparation is again important:
- Clean the bonnet thoroughly.
- Remove wax and polish from the bonding area.
- Degrease the surface.
- Test-fit the add-on before final installation.
- Make sure it is perfectly centred before bonding.
Does the bonnet add-on require drilling?
No. We treat it as a bonded styling component rather than something that needs to be drilled through the bonnet.
This makes it another relatively straightforward modification for owners who do not want to carry out permanent drilling.
Which styling parts fit the Nürburgring Edition?
The following parts fit both the standard VXR and Nürburgring Edition:
- Spoiler extension
- Side skirt extensions
- Rear side splitters
- Bonnet add-on
They also fit both pre-facelift and facelift Corsa D VXR models.
The Nürburgring-style front splitter can also be fitted to the standard VXR bumper if you want to create the Nürburgring-inspired front-end appearance.
Do Maxton styling parts improve aerodynamics?
For a normal road-driven Corsa D VXR, we would treat these parts as styling modifications.
They clearly alter the shape of the vehicle and therefore affect the way air passes around it, but we would not claim a meaningful improvement in:
- Downforce
- High-speed grip
- Cornering performance
- Lap times
Without proper aerodynamic testing, it would be misleading to attach performance figures to them.
Buy them because you like the way they make the car look.
Gloss-black finish
The current Maxton Design Corsa D VXR parts in this collection are supplied in gloss black.
For most cars, we would simply install them in the supplied finish.
Gloss black works particularly well with most factory Corsa VXR colours and allows separate styling components to visually match each other.
A complete setup could therefore use:
- Gloss-black front splitter
- Gloss-black side skirt extensions
- Gloss-black rear side splitters
- Gloss-black spoiler extension
- Gloss-black bonnet add-on
Do Maxton parts need painting?
There is normally no need to paint the gloss-black versions unless you specifically want a different finish.
If you want them body coloured or painted another colour, speak to a body shop before installation so the surface can be prepared correctly.
Test-fit everything before drilling or bonding
Always test-fit a styling component before permanently attaching it to the vehicle.
For splitters and side skirts, check:
- Left-to-right alignment
- How far the part protrudes
- That both sides sit evenly
- Clearance around the bumper and bodywork
- Where the mounting holes will be positioned
For bonded components, test fitting lets you confirm positioning before exposing the adhesive.
Leave the protective film on while test fitting
Where a component is supplied with protective film, leave it in place while checking fitment and alignment.
This protects the gloss-black surface from scratches during handling and also allows you to confirm that you have the correct part before final installation.
Only remove protective film when you are satisfied that the part is correct and ready to fit.
Best complete Corsa D VXR styling setup
For a complete but still relatively OEM-style appearance, we would combine:
- Standard or Nürburgring-style front splitter
- Side skirt extensions
- Rear side splitters
- Spoiler extension
The bonnet add-on can then be added if you want an additional styling detail at the front of the car.
The matching gloss-black finish makes the individual components look like part of one complete package.
Can I fit just one part?
Absolutely.
There is no requirement to install the complete Maxton package.
The spoiler extension is probably our favourite standalone first modification because it is easy to install and does not require drilling.
A front splitter is also a good standalone upgrade if your main goal is to make the front bumper appear lower and more aggressive.
Professional fitting or DIY?
Spoiler extension
This is one of the easiest DIY installations because it is bonded rather than drilled.
The main challenge is cleaning, alignment and applying the adhesive correctly.
Bonnet add-on
Also relatively straightforward provided the surface is properly prepared and the part is carefully aligned.
Front splitter
This requires accurate positioning, drilling and secure mechanical fixing.
Side skirts
These require careful alignment along the length of the car and multiple mechanical fixings.
Rear side splitters
These also require drilling and secure fixing.
If you are not comfortable drilling bodywork or working underneath the car, professional installation is the safer option.
